Lausanne, Switzerland – July 9th, 2019 – Flyability is proud to announce that LafargeHolcim has selected the Elios 2 to perform confined space inspection as part of their "Plants of Tomorrow" initiative.

Utilizing Automation Technologies and Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Predictive Maintenance and Digital Twin Technologies for its entire production process, "Plants of Tomorrow" is LafargeHolcim's initiative to roll out Industry 4.0 technologies in the building material industry. LafargeHolcim reports that a "Plants of Tomorrow" certified operation shows 15 to 20 percent of operational efficiency gains compared to a conventional cement plant.

Automation and robotics is an important element of LafargeHolcim's strategy. By using drones to perform confined space inspections, they can increase the frequency of inspections while simultaneously reducing cost and improving safety for employees. However, this is the result of a long thought plan as the cement industry is one where dust and corrosion must be accounted for in everything you do.

In order to shape the product to their needs, LafargeHolcim's has contributed as a product advisor and beta tester of the Elios 2 during its development. "If you can fly in a cyclone or a Clinker silo, you can fly everywhere," said Jorge Gamarra, Head of Maintenance Equipment Technology at LafargeHolcim. The ability to test Elios 2 in cement plants helped the development of the dustproof lighting and the stabilization system, notably.

The challenge addressed through the partnership between LafargeHolcim and Flyability was significant, but worth the result. LafargeHolcim is now rolling out the use of Elios 2 to several markets including Switzerland, France, Germany, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, India, and Russia.
