Flyability is excited to announce Elios and Elios 2 have been cleared for all three categories of Advanced Operations by Transport Canada. The Canadian agency announced this new regulatory framework in January, and it has been enacted it as of June 1. Flyability submitted it’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Safety Assurance in May, and has recently been approved by Transport Canada.

Flyability’s Elios 1 and Elios 2 meet the RPAS Safety Assurance rating system criteria for all three categories: flight within 100ft (30m) from people, flight within 100ft (30m) over people, and flight in controlled airspace. It is among the 31 UAS out 132 which were cleared for all three of these categories. This declaration means that Flyability’s clients can safely and responsibly use Elios 1 and Elios 2 for all Advanced Operations throughout Canada.

“The safety of our products is key to the trust our customers have in our drones,” says Johan Mlouka, Director of North America, “we are delighted that Transport Canada has recognized the efforts we dedicated to safe operations around and over people, as well as in controlled airspace.”

The RPAS Safety Assurance rating system was put in place to evaluate which UAS were safe to use for different types of operations. For these operations, only drones that have been approved can be deployed. You can find more information about RPAS Safety Assurance and the approved platforms for advanced operations here.
